California Desert Forums

June 28, 2017 - June 29, 2017

On June 12th at the Pentagon, Sonoran Institute, released a groundbreaking report detailing how military missions in the California Desert region are at risk. In this new report, our organization establishes a strategy to protect the viability of these irreplaceable assets to our national defense.

Of primary interest is the focus on using conservation lands to safeguard military bases and ranges to reduce encroachment within military operating areas that occur over nearly 40 million acres in the region. Over 80% of these mission-critical training areas occur over federal lands that are now subject to renewable energy development, mining activity, and other threats to military and environmental assets. 

On June 28th and 29th the Sonoran Institute will be featuring three forums in the region to discuss the report with a series of experts. These events are open to the general public but require registration:
