Fiesta and Santa Cruz River Heritage Project Launch

El Día de San Juan is a traditional, family-friendly event welcoming the start of the monsoon. A procession and fiesta in Tucson’s Westside neighborhoods celebrate the awaited arrival of summer rains. This year, there are three parts to the event, beginning with the official launch of the Santa Cruz River Heritage Project where Tucson Water will begin releasing highly treated wastewater, or effluent, into the Santa Cruz River south of downtown, followed by a procession and a fiesta.

Sonoran Institute will join the celebration at the fiesta at the Mercado San Agustin Annex with a table about our programs and fun activities for kids. The fiesta will have food and crafts for sale, live music and fun for the whole family. This event is free.
