Join us for a first of its kind event along the Santa Cruz River!
The Río Relay is a fun run and volunteer opportunity for the communities surrounding the Santa Cruz River in Pima County to connect with the beloved Santa Cruz River.
Much like other fun runs, this is a roughly 5k experience. The “race” will start at Juhan Park and end near Mission Garden. As folks trek through the Santa Cruz Riverbed, they will be working in teams of 2 or more to remove as much trash as possible within the 3-hour time frame. This will be considered rough terrain, and participants are encouraged to walk rather than run.
There are two modes of involvement that we can have people participate in:
Participating as a team member.
- Teams will be in the riverbed working with their teammates to remove litter from the Santa Cruz.
- Participants will pay a $25 entry fee which will include 1 raffle ticket per person, a swag bag, and a race T-shirt.
Participating as a volunteer (Space is limited)
- Volunteers will be at one of 5 drop-off sites for the garbage. They will be relieving teams of their trash bags, measuring/counting trash for the trash survey, resupplying bags, and aiding with refreshments when necessary. Volunteers will receive 1 raffle ticket, and a volunteer T-shirt.
There will be 4 stops between Juhan Park and the end
- Grant and I-10, West side, 1-mile from Juhan Park
- Santa Cruz River Park, West side, 1 mile from Grant
- St. Mary’s Bonita Park, West Side, 0.6 miles from Santa Cruz River Park
