Our Living River: Community Values and Perceived Challenges for the Santa Cruz River from Rio Rico to Amado

Download

We asked residents from Rio Rico to Amado for their opinions about the Santa Cruz River such as, what do you value about the river? Or, what challenges does the river face? The responses generated many unique, thoughtful and provocative answers, which are summarized in this report.

Responses from community members in Santa Cruz County will inform decisions about how the river will be managed in the future.

Sonoran Institute’s vision: The Santa Cruz River from Mexico to Marana is a living, flowing river and the foundation of community health and prosperity. However, the continued input of water that flows to the Santa Cruz River is not yet a guarantee. It’s essential to understand how communities value the river so that we can work toward a binational solution that preserves and enhances those valued qualities.
